STAY FIT

Keep Moving to Stay Fit

As a person ages, the normal wear and tear of the joints results in swelling and tenderness. An inactive lifestyle often aggravates the problem. However, if your joints are strong you may not experience these problems with age. People with joint problems should avoid running, aerobic dance and most team sports. Here are some exercises that will help you strengthen your joints.

1.
Bicycling it is gentle on the joints and easily practiced by people of all ages.

2.
Stretching Often neglected, stretching exercises are a vital way to strengthen your joints. They keep you limber and feeling good at the same time. Do at least 30 minutes of stretching 2 or 3 times a week. Doing it every day is even better.

3.
Climbing the stairs one of the most efficient ways of strengthening the bones, muscles and joints of your lower body. Stairs are everywhere and free to use. So get going!

4.
Swimming Even if you can't swim, you can use the pool for an excellent workout, like water aerobics, to help strengthen the joints. Water reduces the impact on joints.

5.
Ttai Chi This low-impact Chinese martial art consists of slow, flowing, meditative movements that are easy on the joints and can improve balance, increase strength and flexibility, decrease blood pressure, and reduce joint pain.

Make sure you are active through the day and keep using your joints to keep them healthy.
